WHAT IS CASE INVESTIGATOR?

The reality for law enforcement investigators today is not only a constant pressure to solve crimes. But also to do it fast and reliable. That in combination with the constantly increasing amount of data, different data formats and the lack of “easy-to-use” tools is the reason we decided to create Case Investigator.

ForensIQ One’s Case Investigator is designed to help the investigator with solving crimes. With our approach we help the users and aid them through the entire investigation process. With a user interface that is simplistic but yet powerful, Case Investigator is ready to tackle all the tasks required.

Case Investigator comes pre-loaded with a powerful set of features and functions.

PUT THE PERSONS IN FOCUS

Computers, phones and other types of devices do not commit crimes. People do! That’s why Case Investigator is designed to put the persons, rather than the devices, in the center of the investigation.

In the person dashboard you will find every person in the investigation. Each presented in a comprehensive overview that will give you the complete picture where Case Investigator will automatically answer the common four W’s – What? When? Where? and Who?. The result of these questions are shown in graphical views like activity line, relation view and maps.

WORKING WITH MEDIA

No matter what your needs are when working with media files, Case Investigator will have you covered. The media view is put together so it is easy to understand and simple to navigate without compromising on features and functionalities.

With support for Project VIC and other image classification databases, the workload can be reduced by automatic classification of already known media files. By adding the option to blur and hide content we want to help reduce the mental wear and tear for those who work long hours with challenging and sensitive material.

LOCATION DATA

We all know that geo-data exists in many ways on different devices. The camera on your smartphone stores the location where you took a picture. Chat applications can use location data as a part of their functionality, like dating or taxi apps. But also operating systems like Android and iOS relies heavily on collecting location data. Case Investigator can easily display all these types of location information on maps.

Case Investigator has full support for both online and offline maps.

CONVERSATIONS

To exchange information, people use many different ways to communicate with each other. It can be phone calls, emails, sms and different chat applications. In a conversation between two persons, it is not uncommon that there’s a switch between ways of communicating. It all may have started via a chat application, switched to a call, then an email is sent before ending with a few messages more in the chat application.

To understand how two persons or a group of people have communicated, it is important to present the communication in its full context. If not, the investigator may miss the bigger picture. That’s why Case Investigator show communication between people and not single conversation threads from applications.

CASE NOTES

Experience tells us that to take notes during the case process, investigators tend to use pen and paper. Sometimes applications like Word or similar are used to both take notes and save relevant evidence they find. One of the main reasons for this is that data is scattered among many different sources and the investigator wants everything collected in one place.

None of these ways, are considered good by anyone. But it has been the best way to do it.

In Case Investigator we have solved this issue by implementing case notes. Write comments and notes, then combine it with evidence findings. This by simple drag-n-drop and then save the evidence into a document. All in a chronological order. At the end of the investigation you can produce a report that can be shared with other stakeholders.

FAMILIAR LAYOUTS

We believe that it is easier to view data in a commonly used way. That’s why Case Investigator is loaded with different graphical ways of viewing data.

We all understand a spreadsheet and it has it’s benefits when sorting data on different attributes. But showing data in a graphical way many times makes it easier to understand the data.

It is easier to see and understand locations on a map rather than the latitude and longitude coordinates in a grid. Another example are calendars, we use them in our everyday life. The reason we use calendars instead of spreadsheets for our planning is simple. It’s easier to read, understand and of course get the better overview.
